Judith and Susanna Shakespeare, daughters of famous William Shakespeare, were born into an era of rich literary development. Unfortunately there is very little public record about Judith’s life. She had a somewhat chequered existence of which her father disapproved greatly. Interestingly, despite her father’s talent it was likely she was illiterate. Her sister Susanna’s life however was markedly different. Elder of the two daughters, Susanna it is believed fought hard for the rights of women. She spoke out against misogyny, encouraged women seek their own well-being independent of their families, and fought famously against a libellous suit.
